Karaoke 2

“We live in a karaoke culture. The Japanese word means ‘empty orchestra’ - a lifeless musical form unemcumbered by creativity and free of responsiblilty. Simple, clean fun for the millennial nuclear family. You can’t fail in a karaoke world. It’s life by proxy, liberated by hindsight”
–Malcolm McLaren
I just loved this quote. It is in the latest Wired. But, the more and more you read it the more you just think, wow, that is so true. Life by proxy.

Draws the line… 7

Things that have come up at work lately have made me mad. It appears that
someone has now turn into my enemy. I am not going to let this go any
further nor will I lash out, but I know that I do my work, and that is all
that has to be known. Never have I slept at work, and usually I am too busy
to even have it cross my mind. Enough, I am not going to let a rumor get me
down.
In other news, I am having some trouble setting up debian on my old gateway
266mHz. It has plenty of ram (128Mb) and enough HDD (20Gb) but for some
reason it wont let me start x windows. I have Gnome and KDE set up and
neither of them will work when set up as the x windows server. So all I have
is a Linux box that is command line. Sure this is what the original Linux
looked like, and sure I am going to have to learn most of the more dominate
lines. But, windows would not be what it is today if it was just plain
command line, in fact it wouldn’t be called Windows. It would still be
called DOS.

National Association of Stupid Caucasians and Rednecks

It has been a while since I have posted anything of interest. But I guess I should catch up on the last few days.
Cheryl at work (aka Mama) said I should start keeping track of all thing I do, and places I go to. She said that one day I would want to remember this stuff to show to my grandchildren. I told her I have this journal, but I realized that I don’t really keep a lot of that stuff in here. So, for Cheryl and my future grandkids let me tell you what happened.
Thursday was quite a day. Bret, Joseph, and I went to the Tabernacle in Atlanta to see the Comedy Central Live tour. Mitch Hedberg, Dave Attell and Lewis Black (in that order) were hillarious. My favorite though had to be Lewis Black. The man can take any current event and make you see how stupid it is that it is even a current event. Water, bottled at the source to retain freshness. “Its in a god-damned bottle, it can’t be fresh!” Yeah. By the way, some really horrible photos of the trip can be found at http://pholower.fotki.com
Yesterday, well, how does one compare yesterday’s events with those held on Thursday? I didn’t wake up until 2pm. Paid bills, went to coach peaks house to install a DVD burner for him. Came home and ate Pud Thai (I made it myself, and am proud of it too) and watched owney mahony, or something to that effect, it has Phillip Seymore Hoffman in it. So I figured it has to be good. So far, it is good, but I had to cut the movie short to get to bed to wake up this morning at the crack of dawn.
I only got an hour and a half of sleep. The last thing I saw on the clock before being awakened by my cell phone was 3:05am, I had to be up at 5:00am So I know I didn’t get much more than an hour and a half of useful sleep.
Erika is out of town, some family reunion or something like that.

No place like 127.1.0.1 1

By the time this is posted, I will have been at work for more than an hour and a half. Thats just insane. To think that I woke up today at 5, and no joking, woke up! Ah, just another day in my newly found I.T. world. Its great though. Don’t get me wrong, I got here, had to unlock the doors for everybody, turn on the lights (it was quite dark, because at this hour in the morning the sun has yet to rise and wake the rest of montgomery)turn on the air conditioning system, set up the campaigns, execute a SQL script (execute an SQL script depending on how your pronounce SQL.) I have people that depend on me to be here in order for this place to run. That kind of responsiblity has almost gotten to my head. But again, today is a good day, sure I have to work during the Auburn game, but I have a radio, and it isn’t on TV anyway (except pay-per-view) I am in comfortable, not dressed up, jeans and a T-shirt clothes and I feel good. Did I mention I had to back up the servers? Yes, great day indeed, now as long as I don’t have to reroute fiber lines and don’t have to replace anybody with a very small shell script I will remain happy. Now I just have to get used to running photoshop on a mac. Should be interesting.
