Things that have come up at work lately have made me mad. It appears that
someone has now turn into my enemy. I am not going to let this go any
further nor will I lash out, but I know that I do my work, and that is all
that has to be known. Never have I slept at work, and usually I am too busy
to even have it cross my mind. Enough, I am not going to let a rumor get me
down.
In other news, I am having some trouble setting up debian on my old gateway
266mHz. It has plenty of ram (128Mb) and enough HDD (20Gb) but for some
reason it wont let me start x windows. I have Gnome and KDE set up and
neither of them will work when set up as the x windows server. So all I have
is a Linux box that is command line. Sure this is what the original Linux
looked like, and sure I am going to have to learn most of the more dominate
lines. But, windows would not be what it is today if it was just plain
command line, in fact it wouldn’t be called Windows. It would still be
called DOS.

I take it you’re saving this Ashley log for YEEEEEEEARS down the road when you’ll need it?
Well but of course I am saving it, putting in a vault, sealing it up, and then maybe, maybe one day, years down the road, I will need this.
Ashley?
Ashley is a girl at work who just got pregnant, so, I am keeping track of any “mood swings” to see how bad it really is.
Try checking your x windows set up. It might have set it up to 24 bit color (which is the default, and stupidily…) your monitor/gfx card might not support 24 bit, and only support 16 or 32. Due to the age of the machine, I say go ahead and set it to 24 and see if that is the problem…
That worked fantasticly. Thanks, you’re right, the default for that was 24bit + 8 bit alpha. Set it to 16 and it works great. A little slow, but what do you expect from a 266 right?
Glad to be of help
I love linux (actually a big Mac OS X user) and little things like that annoy me on the desktop side of the linux world. Setting up servers I rarely ever use X, but that one little thing annoys the living HELL out of me because I always forget to set it.
