File Sharing Software Developers Liable?

File Sharing has lost a major battle, and I for one can not agree with the justices on this one. They have stated that the software developers and the ones who operate and manage filesharing networks are responsible for illegal activities handled on their networks. I believe this is a gross injustice. The filesharing networks do provide a great resource to those on the internet.

Making the network illegal files travel on responsible is about as sane as determining the automakers that produce vehicles in which drug dealers drive are also a responsible party in the war on drugs.

I haven’t used P2P sites for illegal file sharing in years, and I don’t plan on starting back anytime soon, however, taking away something (which is in effect what the supreme court has just done) that I use often because there happens to be illegal activity associated with it is absurd. If we want to jump on that bandwagon lets also hold the federal government responsible for having an illegal income tax. Lets be honest, the 16th amendment was properly ratified. Lets also hold George W. Bush responsible for the illegal activities that have taken place in Iraq, because it was he that opened the conduit for war on foreign soil.

Might as well make educators responsible for the shooting deaths in schools. We should probably not forget to make priests, rabbis, and other religious leaders responsible for every conflict every started because of the three letter word God.

To the justices of the Supreme Court of the United States of America, you have just ruled on something that has marginal benefit for large corporations, and significant losses to the private citizen.

Thanks for being such a pal to the little guys.

Sincerely,

John Tracy
