I had to go ahead and post this before I forgot about it.
While driving down Taylor Road today on the way to my final I saw a guy in “good-ole-boy” pickup truck with a sticker in the middle of the rear window that read “Rage Against the Machine.” Right next to this kick-ass sticker, was the deep-south, way out there right wing, “W” The president sticker. I found this to be incredibly ironic, and at the same time very confusing. I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.
To be perfectly honest, I wanted beat the shit out of the guy for not realizing how different his view points and that of Rage Against the Machine’s really were. Hum.
Anyway, I am off to my final now. I studied for about 2 hours today after I got out of work early. I don’t think I can push anymore information that isn’t already there into my head. It shouldn’t be that bad, just a multiple-choice exam. I don’t think it counts as much as other tests. The real whammy is coming up Wednesday for my Business Statistics exam. I swear, I know of no business that actually use calculus and finite mathematics as much as this book is saying. Whatever, whatever, and Amen.

i was gonna say that maybe it was a tongue in cheek thing, or that he was being purposefully ironic, or that he was specifically trying to confuse people by being ambiguously extreme.
but then i remembered you said it was on a pickup truck. oh well.
i see the irony.
one time i was on spring break in gulf shores..when this idiot in a rage against the machine shirt tried to hit on me..needless to say it did not go well for him..but during his attempt he mentioned the fact that he loved “rage”..and i was like..well i think they are aweful as a band..but at least they made more kids politically aware..and i think that is a good thing. he then blew up on me for like 5 mins..on how wrong i was..and blah..blah blah..and how much better the world is because of them…and i was like well..to reconsider my point..i don’t think they have done alot of good..and he starting going on again about their influence..so i asked him..are you registered to vote? and he said no.
i walked away.
your story is example number two in my life of the meaningless of their stickers..or shirts..or fans..to the actual political impact they have had.
meaningless.
their fans should be shot.
hahahahaha. Oh man, that was good.
By the way, I heard Phil was closing. The news broke my heart. I may have to come back to Montgomery just to wish him a fond farewell.
yeah..he has threatened many times..but those best buyers..(they know who they are)..will run all of our independent music stores out of business.
plus he can just smoke pot at home now..and feel free to do so in boxers so that his bubblegum psych pop will not run anyone off.
maybe moby grape will get him through his lonely nights and bubble puppy through his lonley mornings..
i remember going there the week of opening and ordering a sonic youth cd. probley the first cd i ever owned..and thinking..”this is really cool”..i could not have been older than 14…
weird.
i am going to take photos..not that i don’t have a hundred of all of us standing around..running our mouths..maybe i will do a post of them one day.
don’t forget to respond to my post and send me your address.
ratm is great, pickups are great…but good ‘ole boys and president bush can all suck it and suck it hard.
shree, rage fans are just that. fans. we are not to be taken as a political force, nor should we be expected to make ANY kind of political impact.
thats like asking you to make an impact as a fan of that horrible hippie music you listen to. what with your mesh stockings and your tie dye clad, moppy-haired hero posters on your walls.
still with kyle? if so, tell him i said hi. see you soon.
