New Phone

I need to get a new phone. I cracked the one I have in a recliner. Long story.

The phone still works, but it is incredibly weak right now. The screen is about to fall off at the hindge because of a large crack. The side of the phone is dented and bent in.

I need something that will do everything my current phone did, but I can’t spend too much money on it. No, I can not afford an iPhone, so it really shouldn’t be mentioned. If any of you know of a good phone, that is GSM (I am on cingular), that can do mobile internet, pictures, blah blah blah, and can sync with a mac with bluetooth, let me know. I need something.

Smoke in Montgomery

No, that is not your house or apartment on fire. It is the forest on fire, hundreds of miles away.

Here I am again, thanking Florida and Georgia for considering Montgomery their ashtray.

“I’m a Fatass” Boot Camp 2

I started a self motivated boot camp last week. I am trying to go to the gym at least 4 times a week, and for at least 1 hour. I have been keeping up with that so far. I started half way through last week and went twice. I went yesterday and today, and I want to go the rest of the week.

It is amazing how motivated I am to go the gym. I am doing no less than 45 minutes of cardio, and then spending about 25 minutes weight lifting. It can be excruciating. Horrible. But, every time, the next day I am ready and wanting to do more. The motivation really has derived from the weight I have lost. Almost 30lbs now.

I have got the rest of this week before the holiday, and before summer classes start for me. It will be hard for me to keep up this pace during school, I go four nights a week, four hours a night for four weeks. Hell! I have about 2 hours inbetween work and school each day, so I figure I could still do at least a 45 minute workout a day if not 1 hour, and then head off to class. We’ll see how well that works. I just want to be able to get far enough this week to be motivated to keep going during school.

cheesy ending to a post, and sort of cliche, but what the hell, wish me luck.

Quick Update 5

Just a quick update for today while my dinner is cooking.

Had today off, and man was that a relief! After working all weekend, having a Monday off was a nice change of scenery. Last night Erika and I went to Seth’s house and cooked out. Had a blast. Good to hang out with friends every once in a while.

Didn’t do much today, sat around at the beginning of the day and watched the news. Saw a plane make a crash landing, and then watched a police chase live. Yes, this is the world we live in. No real news, just items that grab the viewers for a better rating to sell commercials.

As I said before, I’m making dinner. Trying a new sauce we found the recipe for in a magazine. Strange ingredients: ginger, brown sugar, red wine, soy sauce, and garlic. Bring to boil and then simmer until thickened. I am on that last part now. It will be used to glaze the chicken I will be grilling in about 20 minutes. I will have to let you know how that goes.

Other than all of that, I go back to work tomorrow, and have to find out if I work on Memorial Day. Of course, I want that day off, but I will see what I can do. The more days spent at the lake being lazy, the better.

Okay, off to finish the dinner, talk later.

  • @springnet I got my Wired magazine in today as well. I think this is about right. I have been subscribing to Wired for 9 years. Always early #
  • Well, on and off for 9 years, but yeah! #

Creating a lifestream with Tumblr

Jumping on more bandwagons than I really have time for at the moment, but here goes the next step. Lifestreaming. Updating everything you do online, in one convenient place for all to see. Think of this less as giving all of the information about my life and what I do everyday, and more of a central repository for the public items I already do online.

I am setting this up using Tumblr. If I had to describe Tumblr acurately, I would have to do it in a comparison to iPods… Here goes: My wordpress site is a a blog, comparitively an 80Gb iPod with Video. It handles anything and everything. A Tumblog is like an iPod nano, it can do everything, but is mostly for the stuff you like, or just do for fun, quick and easy. Twitter is an iPod shuffle. It’s cute and fun, but can only do one thing, and it does that one thing well with no overhead.

Now that I think about it, that was probably a lot more confusing.

Folding @ Home

I started using folding@home. I have used other distributed computing platforms before, most people know of SETI@home, there are others, but folding@home finally got me hooked. I guess I just didn’t consider the value of what they are doing. There are thousands upon thousands of individuals working on folding@home, keeping up this number could bring some major breakthrough’s in health science.

Are any of you using a distributed computing platform? Do you use folding@home? Are you a member of a team, if so, what team? Let me know, I am interested in seeing what other good deeds can be done by simply donating CPU cycles that aren’t going to be used anyway.

  • Using the new wordpress version. 2.2 - Getz. I haven’t had enough time to sift through all of the new features, but it works quite well. #
  • Now, because of upgrading, I want a new theme. Cliche I know, but something a little more web 2.0 #
  • Rounded corners, blues and greens, big lettering here and there, and maybe some AJAX. #

Website Overhaul

I am still in the midst of my overhaul to the site. Most of the items are working, the important stuff anyway. Feeds, posting, categories, comments, etc are all back up. There are some other things, mostly plugins, that are causing some trouble. The Contact page is still down, Tags are kind of working. Hopefully I will have all of that fixed today.

The look is much different than I had yesterday. I have moved into a more colorful, fun design. Rounded corners, bigger letters, tiny icons. The header graphic is the only piece of the design I really need more work with, but for now will do. I expect all of the changes to be done within a week, but sometimes things change and they could take longer.

I’m off to work on some PHP that isn’t working correctly… Crossing fingers.
