Joe L. Reed is Smart 2

Now Joe L. Reed has stepped into the picture of the Montgomery mayoral race, claiming the election time is what? Yep, you guessed it, racism. For some reason, Mr. Reed things students who don’t live in Montgomery should have the right to elect a mayor. Oh, that’s not it kids, he is also claiming that because students should have that right, but aren’t eligible because of restrictions in the amount of time they have resided in the city, that this is diluting (his words, not mine) the black vote. Excuse me for a moment while I attempt to put my eye back in socket, it fell out while I was trying to make sense of his logic.

You can’t take black folks right to vote away to give it to some folks overseas - maybe 100 or 150 folks, and you’re going to deprive some two three thousand folk from voting in the municipal election.

I think the Department of Justice is going to make them change it, withdraw their pre-clearance provision. On the other hand, if they don’t we’re going to go into court either in state court or federal court to stop this election. We do not plan for this election to go forward on August 28th.

Yes, because the students at Huntingdon, AUM and Troy are being discriminated as well. Sorry, I forgot that ASU is the only university in the city. Whoops, my bad.

High Crime? 1

So, it is a subject that has been circling Montgomery for some time now. Is the crime rate really as high as the media is reporting? As of this writing, there have been 27 murders in the city. Of those, two occurred in the last 24 hours. That number has been rising over the last 30 days to surpass all of the murders from last year. What are the facts? I can’t help but think this is the only thing on anyone’s mind, but at the same time, I know the crime rate hasn’t impacted me, or anyone I know. Will this actually help scott simmons in his bid for mayor?I have asked a lot of questions, and the problem is, I don’t have any answers right now. What is going on?

  • Yeah I know, I have been posting a lot on my blog. So sue me. Or don’t. Actually, please don’t sue me. #
  • ok, enough posting. I am going to bed. Goodnight. #

Pay per post

I have heard a lot of negative things about bloggers who use Pay Per Post, blog marketing, word of mouth community that pays its users to write posts about specific companies or services. I started using it a few days ago for two reasons: To see what all the hype was about, and if it was negative, and secondly to see how much money could be made using it.

Normally, I wouldn’t sign up for such a service, but I figured I would at least try it out. The thing I like about it is the ability to choose what opportunities I want to write about. This allows me the choose only services I would actually use, services I already use, or things I really would recommend for others. This not only allows me to meet their needs, but at the same time, keeps me on the up and up as I am not posting purely for the money.

Hopefully I will earn enough money to help pay for my books for school, and the occasional item for me! (There is that little thing called an iPhone, don’t know if you heard about it)

Simmons Announces Candidacy for Mayor

Scott Simmons for MayorThe last day to be in the running for mayor of Montgomery, Scott Simmons made his announcement today making it official: A repeat of 4 years ago. I wrote about the likelihood of Simmons throwing his name in the hat a little more than 6 months ago in this post. I have said this before, and I will reinforce my previous statement: If Scott Simmons can’t manage apartment buildings how can he manage a city?

He has one platform, and how he intends on achieving it is beyond me. His official website says he will hire 100 more police officers, pay them more, and keep criminals in jail. I will be perfectly honest, this sounds like an excellent idea. The only problem I have is this is the only issue he mentions. What about downtown? Taxes? Schools? Will he bring up another last minute scandal as he did four years ago with the riverfront fiasco?

In other news, Bobby Bright will be buffing his head for campaign pictures. Yeah I know. Thanks.

Laptop Encryption

Before I go any further in writing this post, let me just say, I have had a slump in writing for a long time. The last month has proved one of the more dire months in me being able to write in my blog about topics I like. I realized something today while I was at the coffee shop. All I need to do is take what is happening to me, and put it in words. I am not going to update with things like what I am eating, or why I am bored, or the typical livejournal post about how much my life sucks. But there are some things I do, or see everyday, that I think others may actually find of interest. And if you don’t. Well, then, I guess don’t read it! :-)

Ok, back on subject… I am using FileVault on my MacBook Pro. I have never used it before, but at the same time I realized how hypocritical of me it would be for me to recommend others to encrypt their hard drive, while I have not done the same on the most vulnerable hard drive I have. Crazy, because I have both of my desktop hard drives encrypted, and to be honest, I don’t really have a great reason for one of those machines because it contain absolutely not critical data that could hurt me in the wrong hands.

I have about another hour left while the system takes all of my precious data and makes the little ones and zeros into harder to read ones and zeros. I am encrypting about 100gb of data. This will be better for me because it will force me to use my password when I go into my system. Have any of you used FileVault? What are your experiences? Hopefully the experiences are, “I don’t even notice it.”
