I have to write about this because I think about it often but I never put it on paper, rather online. I am at the coffee shop down the street from my house and I am sitting at a table behind another patron of the shop using a computer.
He opened his notebook, I heard the Windows XP login chime, and then he immediately opened Internet Explorer. Now, I will be the first person to say there is nothing wrong with using Windows XP. I prefer my mac, but let’s be honest, Windows XP turned out to be a very stable system, and for most people, works exactly as they want it to. My real problem is not just XP, it is the deadly combination of XP and IE. This isn’t the newest version of IE. IE 7 sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of the boxy looking applications on windows. This is IE6. In my opinion, the single worst browser anybody can use.
All I keep think is how much malware, adware, and spyware are on his system. I take for granted how oblivious most people are to this problem. They get these pieces of malware on their system and immediately think it is a problem with their computer, when in reality it is a problem with themselves. Habits have to change for this to ever go away.
Sorry, I just feel bad for the guy, because it is the same as a person who takes their vehicle into the shop not knowing what is going on with their car and mechanics taking advantage of that fact. I just wish more people were aware of the problems online, and took proactive measures to keep their system safe.

Our computer at work is a Windows machine and for the longest time my boss used IE6. I finally upgraded to IE7 so the computer might be a little less susceptible to viruses and spyware since his virus software expired probably well over a year ago. He’s planning on buying a new computer soonish so I’m going to make sure he updates his virus software and keeps it up to date. No telling what is on there right now especially since a lot of myspace browsing gets done on there.
Please somehow get that man to use Firefox. For the safety of all of us!
I have it installed and use it when I’m at the computer but I can’t say much about the rest of them.
Love the new scheme!
Thanks,
Still working on some of the small points of the theme, but overall I love it.
