Design should get better with time, right?
I am at school and have to access my class information through an information service called WebCT. I can’t remember the address to the WebCT login page so I normally go to my school’s home page and just click the link. I went there today, and to my surprise, it became significantly uglier. Check it out here http://www.aum.edu
I thought design should get better with time. This design took about 10 steps back into 2001. Large, ugly black buttons. A “this flash banner was cool in 1999″ element on the top. Big picture that has nothing really to do with typical front page navigation, and then, at the bottom, four misplaced horribly large buttons.
AUM, how about we take some tips from other people. Less is more. Just use clean layouts (preferably with CSS, although you are using it now, you aren’t doing it correctly which I will explain later) easy to read text (preferably in the helvetica font family, which again, you are doing), and sparce use of images. It may seem too simple, and may not look like hard design, but making a great page that is simple and clean is no easy task, with that said, I think you can pull it off.
On the note about CSS, if you are using CSS, you shouldn’t use tables to do layout. I can’t believe you are doing this. I know I am not the best web designer, but for the love of Christ, please just follow freaking standards here. Oh, and one last note, do you have to use ASP? come on, please don’t do it man!
