I have used several threaded comments plugins for wordpress over the years and the best one for the most part was called Brian’s Threaded Comments. There were issues with this plugin, it took lots of time to reconfigure the comments.php style to fit that of the theme your blog already has. Sometimes the javascript messed up.
I got rid of the nested comments because it was too much work to implement with my themes and other plugins that managed subscriptions to posts. I have finally found a solution that works.
WordPress Thread Comment is by far the best I have tried in recent history. You don’t have to edit your comment.php page. It inserts into the existing comment box and just uses text links to tell the comment box to act as a reply. In addition, it automagicly informs the person to whom you are replying of the new comment and does this without other plugins.
It is fairly customizable, you can edit how the page reacts, how many nests there are and also what the emails that are sent to other commenters look like. The English for the instructions and in the default settings is a little rough, so you will want to update that yourself, but this plugin will take you less than 5 minutes to install and test.
If you have been looking for something like this for WordPress, please give this a try, it saved me time, and it saved my sanity.
