My name is John and I am a 27 year old systems administrator. I do web design. I like backpacking. I use WordPress. On this site I talk mostly about the things I like. This is a site about me.
I have several projects I maintain, when they are done, I usually replace them with other things to keep me busy. Currently I am working on taking WordPress Junkie live. Contact me if you would like to help.
The world’s first refrigerated beach is to be built at a luxury hotel in Dubai so the filthy rich holidaymakers don’t burn their feet on the scalding hot sand.
The revolutionary beach will sit next to the new Palazzo Versace hotel and will include a system of heat-absorbing pipes built under the sand and giant wind blowers, designed to keep tourists cool in the searing 40-50C heat.
The hotel, which is due to open late next year or early 2010, will be controlled by thermostats linked up to computers and feature a cooled swimming pool.
Mooncat from “Left in Alabama” made a fantastic post regarding the war on drugs:
Prohibition was repealed 75 years ago last week. Very few people would argue that Prohibition was a successful experiment. It didn’t make booze less available, but it did drive the alcohol economy underground and empower the criminals who ran that underground economy. Recipe for disaster: Take something a lot of people do, make it illegal, then enforce the law on a selective basis. The War on Drugs is pretty much Act II of Prohibition in America, only it’s lasted a lot longer than Act I; you may or may not recall that the War on Drugs was the brainchild of Richard Nixon, also known as Tricky Dick. His giant drug trick is still fooling a lot of Americans.
I have begun work on a wordpress site about wordpress. Sort of self referential I know, but the idea behind it is solid. Trying to make a site that discusses news, releases, themes, plugins, code, development, and of course, meet-ups (wordcamps).
If you, or someone you know might be interested in writing some articles for the cause, (I call it a cause because there is no money in it just yet) let me know.
The site is WordPressJunkie.com.
There is just a simple launch pad there at the moment, but any updates that are made can be viewed if you either subscribe to the RSS or subscribe to the mailing list.
It doesn’t go live until the beginning of 2009, so there is still plenty of time to make it by the first day.
Let me know if you want more information or are interested. Thanks
While I was watching football yesterday, a couple of ads for Zach and Miri make a porno were shown. I looked over and said, “Did they change the title?” Aparently, the word porno is bad, and should not be used in a movie title.
/film has the scoop. This is only happening on certain television spots, and in certain markets.
The story revolves around three people with extraordinary powers, played by Dakota Fanning, Chris Evans and Camilla Belle, who are running away from a secret government organization known as ‘The Division.’ This organization and its top agent, played by Djimon Hounsou, would like to capture these folks and force them to use their powers as weapons
Ok, what the crap is this? I am by no means a designer, but I am convinced I could make a better logo for the London 2012 olympics with my eyes closed. I might even be able to do it with my eyes closed on a Windows machine. (This may be taking it a step too far as I am sure this designer had their eyes open while using MS paint)
Quite possibly the worst graphic ever made for the Olympics
Beijing’s logo was actually quite cool. The logo looks like an ancient runner, but is actually the modified script of the word for Beijing. Stuff like that flies in my book, especially since it looks pretty cool and served the games well.
Great blend of script and graphics, simple yet flashy.
But nothing compares to the coolness of the Tokyo games. Their logo was the most simple of them all, and at the same time showed you everything you needed to know about the games and where they were held.
Rings and the japaneese flag, simple and polished.
